How does this work?

Cuneiform is a syllabic writing system. Each sign represents a syllable like "ka", "mu", "an", "ti", not individual letters.

We break your text into syllables and find the closest cuneiform sign for each. For example: "Luna" โ†’ "lu" + "na" โ†’ ๐’‡ป๐’ˆพ

Some sounds (like "th", "x", "qu") don't exist in ancient Mesopotamian languages and will show as "?". This is expected!

Note: The Create feature uses phonetic approximation to map modern sounds to cuneiform sign values. It produces real, attested signs arranged to echo your words, but it is not authentic Sumerian or Akkadian translation. Those were living languages with their own grammar, vocabulary, and literature. This rendering uses phonetic syllabic approximation to map modern language sounds to ancient cuneiform sign values. It is not an authentic Sumerian or Akkadian translation. Sign data sourced from the ORACC Sign List (OSL, CC0 Public Domain) maintained by Steve Tinney & Niek Veldhuis, University of Pennsylvania. For scholarly cuneiform work, consult oracc.org.
